Snowman with earmuffs.

It is a little cold today. I have better keep my ears warm.

This tutorial is a vector tutorial. It isn't difficult. Try it.

I have added the bird and the scarf pattern in the zip. Get it here.

Start with a New Image, 220 x 270, transp, 16 mill.
New Layer. Call it Head. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked.
Color white on both Fore- and Background. Make the head 115 x 125.
Place it in the centre of your canvas.
Selections, Select all. Selections, Float. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Deselect.

New Vector Layer. Call it Nose. Preset Shapes, Triangle, Create as vector.
 Antialias checked. Color #F69C00 on both Fore- and Background.
Make the nose 25 x 45. Left click on the handle at the arrow.
Keep it down and turn the nose. It will be pointing to your left.

Click at Object Selector   Node Edit.

Now the nose will look like this.

Double click on one node. Now all nodes will be selected.

Right click on one node and this will come up.

Choose, Node Type, Symmetric. It will now look like this.
All nodes are Symmetric now.

Left click outside the nose and it will look like this.

Right click on the left node, (the tip of the nose) and an arrow shows.
Choose Node Type, Cusp. Now you can move both the front-
and backpart of the arrow separately.

Click with your left mouse button. Hold it down while you
drag the upper handle down and a bit out to your right.

Right click and Quit node editing. Left click inside your picture.

Right click on the nose layer in your Layer Palette.
Convert to Raster Layer.  Place the nose with your Mover.

New Layer. Call it Eye. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Black color on both Fore-
and Background. Make the eye 7 x 9.

New Layer. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Black color on Foreground.
 Background closed. Make an ellipse about 9 x 9. Selection Tool, rectangle. Antialias checked. Mark the part you will delete like this.

Delete and you will have a nice small eyebrow. Deselect.
Adjust it with your Mover to look like this.

Close Layers, Head and Nose. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.
Call the layer Eye. Duplicate and put the other eye in place.

Stand on Layer Head. New Layer. Call it Mouth. Preset Shapes, Ellipse.
Black color on Foreground. Background closed. Make an ellipse
about 30 x 35. Selection Tool, Rectangle. Antialias checked.
Mark the part you will delete like this.

Delete and you will have the mouth. Deselect.

Stand on Layer Head in your Layer Palette.
Selections, Select all. Selections, Float. Keep it selected.
New Layer. Airbrush 3, color #F8796C. Make some color on the cheeks.



Effects, Blur, Gaussian Blur 12. Deselect.

Stand on Layer Nose. Retouch Tool, Darken RGB.

Make some small lines on the nose like this.

Selections, Select all, Selections, Float. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Deselect.

Stand on layer Copy of eye. Airbrush 2. White color.
Make a dot on each eye.

Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call the layer Head.

New Layer. Call it Earmuff. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Color #7B0E09
 on both Fore- and Background. Make the muff 45 x 55.
Place it on the snowmans ear. Effects, Geometric, Wave as below.

Effects, Texture, Fur as below.

Retouch, Smudge as below.

Smudge the earmuff to look like a fur-ball.

Duplicate and put it at the snowmans other ear.
Drag this layer under layer Head in your Layer Palette.

New Layer. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Line width 5. Color black on
Foreground. Background closed. Make the ellipse 110 x 110.
Drag this layer under layer Copy of Earmuff in your Layer Palette.
Place it over the snowmans head like this.

Effects, 3D, Inner Bevel. Settings like this.

Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call the layer Head.

New Vector Layer. Call it Scarf1. Preset Shapes, Rounded Rectangle.
Antialias checked. Create as vector checked. Color #275317. The same color on both Fore- and Background. Make a rectangle 95 x 35.
Object Selector. Node Edit. Doubleclick with your left mousebutton on a node.
Right click. Node type, Asymmetric. Left click. Now you have to click
at one node at a time. Keep the left mousebutton down while you drag or push.
Drag and push the arrows (handles) until you get the shape something like this.


Right click and Quit Node Editing. Left click and it looks like this.

New Vector Layer. Call it Scarf2. The same settings and procedure.
Make the rectangle 50 x 80. Drag and push all nodes until it looks like this.

Left click.

New Vector Layer. Call it Scarf3. The same settings and procedure.
 Make the rectangle 35 x 60. Drag and push all nodes until it looks like this.

Left click.

Put the scarf pieces together with your Mover.
 If you want to change anything, do so now.

Stand on Layer Scarf1. Right click in your Layer Palette.
Convert to Raster Layer. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float.
Set Styles to Pattern.



 Get the pattern you got in the zip. Settings like this.

Flood fill. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Deselect,

Stand on Layer Scarf2. Right click in your Layer Palette.
Convert to Raster Layer. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float.
Flood fill with the pattern, but set Angle to 345. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below

 Deselect.

Stand on Layer Scarf3. Right click in your Layer Palette.
Convert to Raster Layer. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float.
Flood fill with the pattern, but set Angle to 10.
Effects, 3D, Cutout as before. Deselect.

Get the bird you got in the zip. Copy and Paste it as a New Layer.
Put it on top of the ring.

Layers Merge, Merge Visible and you are done.

When you will use the picture, you can add a Drop Shadow if you like.
