Santa´s picture.

This is an easy  way to make Santa´s picture.
You use Smudge to make the fur and beard. Let's try it.

Get the heart shape here. Zip it up in your Preset Shapes folder.
Get the flower shape here.  Zip it up in your Preset Shapes folder.
Get the Crescent here. Zip it up in your Preset Shapes folder.

Start with a New Image, 300x300, transp, 16 mill.
New Layer. Call it Beard1. Preset Shapes, Flower 5. Antialias checked.

Foreground color #DDEDED and Background white color. Make the beard 185x185.
Look at your bottomlist for the right size.
 Keep Shift down while you drag, to make it round. Place it in the middle of your canvas.

New Layer. Call it Beard2. Preset Shapes, Flower 5. Antialias checked. The same colors as before.
Make the beard 135x135. Image, Rotate 20 Right. Place the beard ontop of Beard1 like this.


New Layer. Call it Head. Fore- and Background color #F3D0B9.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse, Antialias checked.
Make the head 100x100. Place it ontop of Beard2. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float.
Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Keep it selected. New Layer. Call it Cheeks. Airbrush 2. Color #F99193.
Make some red on the cheeks.


Effects, Blur, Gaussian Blur 8. Deselect.

Close layers Beard1 and Beard2. Layers Merge, Merge Visible. Call the layer Head.

New Layer. Call it Beard3. Preset Shapes, Ellipse, Antialias checked. Foreground color #DDEDED
and Background white color. Make the beard 80x60. Place it infront of the chin. Deselect.

New Layer. Call it Mouth. Foreground color #A71C05, Background white color.
Preset Shapes, Crescent, with these settings.

Make the mouth 14 x 23. Image, Rotate, Left 90. Put the mouth in place.

New Vector Layer. This is very easy, so please continue your good work.
Call the layer Eye. Foreground color #D3DCE7 and Background white color.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked. Create as vector checked. Make the eye 20 x 20.

Object Selector.


Node Edit.

Click on the lower node.



Keep the mousebutton in and push the node a bit up.
Relese the mousebutton. Rightclick and Quit node editing. Left click in your picture.
Your eye will now have this shape.

Right click on the eye layer in your Layer Palette. Convert to Raster layer.
Deformation Tool. Turn the eye a bit to your left.

New Vector Layer. Fore- and Background black color.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked. Create as vector checked. Make the eye 13 x 13.
Do the same with this eyepart as you did with the first one. See above marked with red.
Place the black eyepart ontop of the white like this.

Close all layers except these two eye-layers. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Eye.

Duplicate the layer. Image, mirror. Put the other eye in place with your Mover.



New Layer. Call it Dots. Airbrush2. White color. Make a dot on each eye, like this.

New Layer. Call it Eyebrow1. Foreground color #D3DCE7, Background white color.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked. Make sure Create as vector is NOT checked.
Make the eyebrowpart 15 x 9. Put it above the right eye.
Duplicate and put it a bit apart from the first one.
New Layer. The same settings. Make another eyebrow part 18 x 10. Put it on top of the others.

Close all layers except these three eyebrow layers. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Eyebrow.

New Layer. Call it Moustach. Foreground color #D3DCE7, Background white color.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked. Make the moustach 54 x 40. Put it in place.

New Layer. Call it Nose. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Fore- and Background color #C79B7B.
Make the nose 25 x 15. Put it in place infront of the eyes. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float.
Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.



You might have to adjust the position of the eyes to get it right.

Now we will smudge all hairparts. Layers, View, All. Stand on layer Beard1
in your Layer Palette. Effects, Fur as below.

Retouch tool, Smudge as below.

Smudge the beard with fine outgoing strokes. Make sure to smudge the gaps
between the petals, so they won't be noticed. You can use size 11 when you do that.
You don't need to smudge the upper part of the beard, since the cap will cover it.


When you are satisfied, go to layer Beard 2 and Beard 3 and make the same fur and smudging.
If you like, you can always add a little white or grey and keep on smudging.

When you are finished with the beard, go to the moustach and do the same.
First you will set the size to 25 and push from the outside to the inside,
to make the shape of the moustach.

Then you set the size to 3 again and make the fur and smudging.
When you are satisfied, duplicate the layer. Image, Mirror and put it in place.

Stand on Layer Beard2 in your Layer Palette. Effects, 3D, Drop Shadow as below.

Do the same on Layer Beard3.

Stand on Layer Moustach. Effects, 3D, Drop Shadow as below.

Stand on Layer Eyebrow. Lower the size of the Smudgebrush to 2.
Smudge the eyebrow with tiny strokes outwards. Duplicate. Image, Mirror. Put it in place.
Arrange the parts with your Mover. Lift them up or lower them after your liking.

This is how Santa looks now.


Close Layers Eyebrows. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call the layer Santa.

Close Layer Santa. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call the layer Eyebrows.

New Vector Layer. Call it Cap. Fore- and Background color #B23C4A.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias Checked. Create as vector checked.
Make an ellipse 170 x 160. Object Selector. Node Editing.
Click on the left node. Keep the mousebutton in and drag the nod downwards.

Drag the lower part of the handle down a bit.


 

Drag the right node down a bit.

Also push the top node down and to the left a bit.

You can arrange the nodes to your liking. Make sure the beard behind Santa doesn't show.
If you have to lift the whole cap up a bit, just click on the line, keep the mousebutton in and lift it.
When you are happy with what you see, right click, Quit Node Editing. Left click.
Right click in your Layer Palette on Layer Cap.. Convert to Raster Layer. Selections, Select all.
Selections, Float. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Deselect.

New Layer. Foreground color #DDEDED, Background white color.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked. Create as vector NOT checked.
Make an ellipse 40 x 35. Duplicate it five times and put them together like this.


Close Layers Santa, Eyebrows and Cap. Layers Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Brim.
Make the same settings as you had on Layer Beard1. Do the same Fur and Smudging.



In your Layer Palette, drag the Layer Eyebrow on top. The eyebrows will be seen outside the brim.

New Layer. Call it  Tassel. Foreground color #DDEDED, Background white color.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Antialias checked. Create as vector NOT checked.
Make a  circle 40 x 40 with the same settings as you had on Layer Beard1.
Do the same Fur and Smudging. Add some grey color in the middle of the tassel and smudge it.
Place the tassel at the end of the cap.

We will have to put something nice on the brim also. We'll put on some leaves and berries.

New Layer. Foreground color #3C5F2D and Background color #739B79. Preset Shapes, Heart 17.

Make the leaf  20 x 30. Turn it with Deformation tool to your liking.
Duplicate and turn this one also. Put the leaves together.

New Layer. Foreground color #881F1C and Background color #C74141.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Make a circle 10 x 10. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float.
Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Deselect.

Duplicate the berry two times and put them ontop of the leaves.

Have a look at your picture. If you like to change anything, do so now.

Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. and you are done.
