Raven, fat.

Do you need a fat black bird for Halloween?
This is a tutorial about how to make a fat raven.

You will need my Preset Shape, Tassel. Get it here and zip it up in your PSP, Shapes Folder.

Start with a New Image 400 x 400, transp, 16 mill.

Keep it selected. Go to Wing Layer. Delete. Go to Copy of Wing. Delete. Deselect.
Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Body.

New Vector Layer. Call it Beak. Preset Shapes, Triangle,
Foreground and Background color #F98B31. Create as Vector checked.

Make the beak 18 x 29. Place it on the head, like this.
Take the handle at the arrow with your left mouse button.

Keep it down and turn the beak a bit.
Object Selector, Node Edit. Right click on the node at the arrow.

Node Type, Symmetric. The node changes by it self then
and the beak will have a rounded point. If you like the beak to be more rounded,
pull the handles. Right click, Quit Node Editing. Left click in the picture, outside the bird.
Go to your Layer Palette. Layer Beak. Right click on the Layer, Convert to Raster Layer.
If you like to turn the beak even more, use Deformation Tool.

This is how it looks for me now.

New Layer. Call it Eye1. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Remember to uncheck Create as Vector.
Foreground and Background white color. Make the eye 6 x 8. Place it on the head.

New Layer. Call it Eye2. Airbrush5, Black color. Make an eye on top of the white eye.
You just have to make one click. Airbrush1, white color. Make a dot on the black eye at the upper left.

Duplicate and put the other eye in place. Put them rather close to eachother.

Stand on Layer Beak. Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the beak.
Click inside. Effects, Cutout as below.

Deselect.

Open all Layers. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Body.

New Layer. Call it Claw1. Preset Shape, Tear Drop, color #F98B31
on both Fore- and Background. Make a drop 11 x 41.

New Layer. Call it Claw2. Preset Shape, Tear Drop, color #F98B31
on both Fore- and Background. Make a drop 11 x 31.
Duplicate. Put the claws like this.

Close Body layer. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Foot.
Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the foot. Click inside. Effects, 3D, Cutout as before.

New Layer. Call it Nail. Preset Shape, Tear Drop, black color
on both fore- and Background. Make a drop 4 x 13. Duplicate two times.
Put the nails on the toes. like this.

Close Layer Body. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Foot. Duplicate and put the feet in place.

Don't merge those two layers. If you, for instance, will place the bird on a branch,
you will first have to put the bird in the picture, then the branch and finally the feet on top of the branch.
So save the picture as it is now and all is done!

You can make the ladder-sign from this tutorial.

Meet his pal, the thin raven.
