Pansy.

This is how I make Pansies.
Would you like to try?

Make a folder in your PSP-selections folder.
Call it Pansy and zip my Selections up there.

Get the Pansy parts here.

Don't forget to save often!
Save in PSP-format, then the background will be transparent.

Let's get started then.

New Image 300 x 300, transparent.
Fill with black color. Then you will be able to look better at your work at times.
You will delete that layer later. Call the layer Background and close it.

New layer call it Back1. Selections, Load from disk. Find your Sel map, Pansy.
Open back1.sel. Airbrush 3. Leave the picture selected while you paint.
Paint with color #000000 + #A80484 + #F709C7 + #EF9AD0 like I did.

Smudge. Settings as below.

Keep the picture still selected. Zoom the picture. It will be easier to see what you are doing then.
Smudge from the lighter parts to the darker pats. After that you smudge from the darker to the lighter.
Take very tiny strokes against the centre of the flower.

Deselect.

New Layer. Call it Back2. Selections, Load from disk back2.sel.
Paint the petal.  With the black color at the centre and brigheter further out.

Smudge as before. Make the strokes against the centre of the flower.  Deselect.

New layer. Call it Middle. Selections, Load from disk, middle1.sel.
Paint with color #000000 + #DB2604 + #F19143 + #FCC43C like I did.

 Smudge.

It might look like this now.

Deselect.

New Layer. Call it Middle2. Selections, Load from disk, middle2.sel.
Paint with the same colors. Remember the black color to the centre of the flower.

Smudge. Deselect.

New Layer. Call it Front. Selections, Load from disk, front.sel.
Paint with the same colors. Black towards the centre.

Smudge.

Deselect.

Make all Layers active and be sure you have taken Smudge against the centre on all petals.
Do you have to change something, do it now. My flower looks like this.

Stand on Layer Back1. Layers, View, Current only.
New Layer. Call it Rim1. Selections, Load from disk, rim1.sel. Fill with white color.
Use Airbrush 5, that is the easiest way to fill those narrow rims. Deselect.
Close all layers except Back1 + Rim1. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Back1.
Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the petal. Click inside it. Now you will have the petal selected.
We do that to keep the shape of the petal, so the colors will not float outside. Smudge.

Now, take very tiny strokes from the white, to the centre of the flower.

Close Back1 and stand on Layer Back2.
New Layer. Call it Rim2.
Selections, Load from disk, rim2.sel. Fill with white color. Deselect.
Close all Layers except Layer Back2 + Rim2. Merge Visible. Call it Back2.
Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the petal. Click inside it. Smudge as before. Deselect.

Close Back2. Stand on Middle1.
New Layer. Call it Rim3.
Selections, Load from disk, rim3.sel. Fill with white color. Deselect.
Close all Layers except Middle1 + Rim3. Merge Visible. Call it Middle1.
Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the petal. Click inside it. Smudge as before. Deselect.

Close Middle1 and stand on Middle2.
New Layer. Call it Rim4. Selections, Load from disk, rim4.sel. Fill with white color. Deselect.
Close all layer except Layer Middle2 + Rim4. Merge Visible. Call the layer Middle2.
Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the petal. Click inside it. Smudge as before. Deselect.

Close Layer Middle2 and stand on Layer Front.
New Layer. Call it Rim5. Selections, Load from disk, rim5.sel. Fill with white color. Deselect.
Close all layer except Layer Front + Rim5. Merge Visible. Call the layer Front.
Selection Tool. Make a rectangle around the petal. Click inside it. Smudge as before. Deselect.

This is how the flower looks on black background.

Stand on Layer Front. New Layer. Selections, Load from disk, center.sel
Fill with color #F9D76F. Deselect. Effects, Blur, Gaussian Blur 4.

New Layer. Call it Pistil.  Selections, Load from disk, pistil.sel. Fill with color #8B781D.

This is your Layer Palette now.

Stand on Layer Background in your Layer Palette. Right click and delete.
Layers, Merge, Merge Visible to all other layers. Call the Layer Flower.

Your Pansy is done. Good work!

These are examples of how you can vary your pansies. Some are with the wavy rim, some are without.
Hope you liked my tutorial and I hope you will have a lovely bouquet of flowers.

But flowers must have leaves also, so let's make some.
