Bird-ride.
Get my Selections
here and zip them up in
your PSP Selections folder.
The zip also includes the face. Zip it up in your Image folder.
In this tutorial I will not use Cutout for the shading.
We will use Gradient colors instead. The only thing you have to check,
is the direction of the bright and dark colors.
Start with a
New Image 275 x 275, transp, 16 mill.
New Layer. Call it Branch. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, branch.sel.
Set Foreground color to #AC6928. Background color #673907 and
in your Tool Option box, make these settings.

Flood Fill with
with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
Now you will have the bright color on top of the branch and the shadow
under it.
New Layer. Call it
Toes. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, toes.sel.
Set Foreground color to #89714B and Background the same as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Toelines. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, toelines.sel.
Set Foreground color to #5E4D32. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Tail. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, tail.sel.
Set Foreground color to #2F284C and Background to #43377F.
Change the direction as shown.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Chest. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, chest.sel.
Set Foreground color to #D95C47 and Background to #FE8470.
Change the direction as shown.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
This is what
you will have now.

New Layer. Call it
Wing1. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, wing1.sel.
Set Foreground color to #2F284C and Background to #43377F.
Change the direction as shown.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Beak. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, beak.sel.
Set Foreground color to #886250 and Background to #D0A97E.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Head. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, head.sel.
Set Foreground color to #2F284C and Background to #43377F.
Change the direction as shown.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Whiteeye. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, whiteeye.sel.
Set Foreground color to white. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Effects, 3D, Inner Bevel as below.

Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Blackeye. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, blackeye.sel.
Set Foreground color to black. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Effects, 3D, Inner Bevel, Round. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Wing2. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, wing2.sel.
Set Foreground color to #2F284C and Background to #43377F.
Change the direction as shown.

Flood fill with
your left mouse-button. Selections, Modify, Contract by 1.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
Now the bird is
ready. Have a look at your picture.
If you want to change anything, do so now.
Layers, Merge,
Merge Visible. Call the layer Bird.

Now to Santa.
New Layer. Call it
Foot. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, foot.sel.
Set Foreground color to #923908. Flood fill with your left
mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Shoe. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, shoe.sel.
Set Foreground color to #542B0A and Background to #955D3F.
Flood fill with
your left mouse-button. Selections, Modify, Contract by 1.
Keep the same Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Leg. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, leg.sel.
Set Foreground color to #623408 and Background to #B46D42. Keep the same
Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Sweater. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, sweater.sel.
Set Foreground color to #962020 and Background to #E12D2D. Keep the same
Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Mitten. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, mitten.sel.
Set Foreground color to #344327 and Background to #6C7950. Keep the same
Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Arm. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, arm.sel.
Set Foreground color to #962020 and Background to #CB2929. Keep the same
Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Armline. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, armline.sel.
Set Foreground color to #6E1818.
Flood fill with your left mouse-button. Deselect.
This is what
you will have so far.

New Layer. Call it
Head. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, santahead.sel.
Set Foreground color to #DCB79C and Background to #FFE1CB.
Gradient settings as below.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Deselect.
Get the face
you got in the zip. Copy and Paste it as a New Layer.
Call the layer Face.
Put it in place with your Mover.

New Layer. Call it
Tassel. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, tassel.sel.
Set Foreground color to #D1D9E1. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1. Change Foreground color to white
and Flood fill with your left mouse-button. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Cap. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, cap.sel.
Set Foreground color to #A33535 and Background to #E30909.
Gradient settings as below.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Capline. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, capline.sel.
Set Foreground color to #941A06. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Hair. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, hair.sel.
Set Foreground color to #946706. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1. Set Foreground color to #B37B04 and
Background to #D59801. Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with
your right mouse-button. Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Hairlines. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, hairlines.sel.
Set Foreground color to #946706. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Scarf1. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, scarf1.sel.
Set Foreground color to #495537. Flood Fill with your left mouse-button.
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1. Set Foreground color to #516436 and
Background to #869957. Gradient settings as below.

Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform. Deselect.
New Layer. Call it
Scarf2. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, scarf2.sel.
Set Foreground color to #495537. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1. Set Foreground color to #516436 and
Background to #899957. Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
Colors, Adjust, Brightness-Contrast. Brightness -16, Contrast 0.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform.
New Layer. Call it
Scarf3. Selections, Load from disk, birdride, scarf3.sel.
Set Foreground color to #495537. Flood fill with your left mouse-button.
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1. Set Foreground color to #516436 and
Background to #899957. Gradient settings as before.
Flood fill with your right mouse-button. Deselect.
Effects, Noise, Add 5% Uniform.
Now Santa is
ready. Have a look at your picture.
If you want to change anything, do so now.
Close Layer
Bird. Layers, Merge,
Merge Visible. Call the layer Santa.
Now you can keep the bird and Santa on separate layers for future use.
You can use them separately if you like. When you want them on the same
Image,
take Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.
