Bear sign.

With this tutorial, you can make this welcome-sign.

You will use these filters: Paint Engine and Eye Candy.

You will also need my Blueberry Image and Welcome text.
You can get the text in different languages.
I have included those two in this zip. Zip them up in your PSP Image folder.

Start with a New Image, 400 x 400,  transp, 16 mill.

New Layer. Call it Plate1. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Color #BFD6A9 on both Fore- and Background.
Antialias checked. Make the plate 260 x 260.
Keep Shift down while you make the circle, in order to make it perfectly round.

New Layer. Call it Line1. Draw 15, Single line, color #89AF8B. Antialias checked.
Make a line vertically, that covers the plate. If the line is too long, it doesn't matter,
we will delete that later. I made my line 0 x 275 long.
You can see the size on the list at the bottom of your screen.

(I have rezised the Image.)

Duplicate the Layer Line1. Image, Rotate 45º Right.
Stand on Layer Line1 again. Duplicate. Image, Rotate 45º Left.
Stand on Layer Line1 again. Duplicate. Image, Rotate 30º Left.
Stand on Layer Line1 again. Duplicate. Image, Rotate 30º Right.
Stand on Layer Line1 again. Duplicate. Image, Rotate 15º Right.
Stand on Layer Line1 again. Duplicate. Image, Rotate 15º Left.

Close Layer Plate1. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

Duplicate, Image, Rotate, 90º Right.

Keep Layer Plate1 closed. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call the layer Lines.

Stand on Layer Plate1. Make the layer visible again.  Magic Wand.
Click outside the plate. Keep it selected.
Stand on Layer Lines, Delete. Selections, Invert. Selections, Modify, Contract by 20. Delete.

Keep it still selected. New Layer. Call it Plate2. Flood Fill with the checked pattern, scale 70, you got in the zip
or with a choice of your own. Keep it still selected. Selections, Modify, Expand by 6.

New Layer. Call it Ring. Flood Fill with color #89AF8B.
Drag this layer under Layer Plate2 in your Layers Palette. Deselect.

Stand on Layer Lines. Selections, Select all. Selections, Float. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Deselect.

Stand on Layer Plate2. Selections, Select all, Selections, Float. Effects, 3D, Cutout as below.

Effects, 3D, Drop Shadow as below.

Close Layer Plate2. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Plate1.
Drag Layer Plate2 under Layer Plate1 in your Layers Palette.

That was the plate. Now to the sign.

New Layer. Draw, Single Line8. Black color. Antialias checked.
Make two vertical lines, one 60 and one 40 on the same layer.
Place them like this.

Effects, Geometric, Wave as below.

New Layer. Draw, Single Line8. Continue the lines, with straight lines like this.

Selection Tool, Rectangle. Just to make the lines equal long. Mark the lines.

Delete. Deselect.

Close Layer Plate1 and Plate2. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Wire.
Effects, 3D, Inner Bevel, Round.

Stand on Layer Plate2. New Layer. Preset Shapes, Ellipse, Line width 3.
Foreground color #6F5D4C and Background PhonePole pattern.

Make the sign 155 x 60. Centre it under the wires.
Colors, Adjust, Brightness, set to 30, contrast 0.

New Layer. Preset Shapes, Rounded Rectangle. The same settings as before.
Make a rectangle 240 x 70.
Colors, Adjust, Brightness, set to 7, contrast 0.
Place it on top of the previous sign, like this.

Close Layers Plate1 and Plate2. Layers Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Sign.
Make sure Layer Sign is on top in your Layers Palette.
You can also change the color of the sign if you use Colorize.
I used these settings. I wanted it to be a little greenish.

Get the welcome-text you got in the zip. Choose the one you'll need.
Copy and Paste it as a New Layer. Call the layer Text.

Well, now we will make the bear.

Stand on Layer Plate2. New Layer. Call it Body. Preset Shapes, Ellipse.
Color #8C6E5A on both Fore- and Background. Make an ellipse 175 x 140.
Place it at the centre of the plate. Filter PaintEngine as below.

Eye Candy, Jiggle as below.

Stand on Layer Plate1. New Layer. Call it Head. Preset Shapes, Ellipse.
The same settings as before. Make an ellipse 160 x 165.
Place it at the centre and on top of the body.
Filter PaintEngine as before. Eye Candy, Jiggle as before.

Stand on Layer Plate1. New Layer. Call it Ear. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Make the ellipse 40 x 50.
Deformation Tool. Turn the ear a little and place the ear on the head.
Take the same, Paint Engine and Eye Candy, Jiggle as you did before.

New Layer. Call it Innerear. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Color #B7938B on both Fore- and Background.
Make the innerear 26 x 33. Turn it a bit with Deformation Tool and put it infront of the other ear.
Take the same, Paint Engine and Eye Candy, Jiggle as you did before.

Close all layers except Layers Ear and Innerear. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Ear.
Duplicate the ear. Image, Mirror. Put the ear in place on the other side of the head.

Close all layers except Layers Head,  Ear and Copy of Ear.
Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Head.

New Layer. Call it Muzzle. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Color #EDDED9 on both Fore- and Background.
Place the muzzle like this.

Paint Engine as before. Retouch Tool, Smudge as below.

Take very small strokes from the muzzle and outwards. Zoom the picture to see better.
You will only take Smudge on the outer parts. When you are done, it might look like this.

Stand on Layer Head and do the same Smudging on the outer parts.
You don't have to take Smudge on the body, since we will put a scarf over it.

New Layer. Call it Eye. Preset Shape, Teardrop. Color #FFFFFB. Make the eye 18 x 26.
New Layer. Call it Eye1. Preset Shape, Teardrop. Color black.
Make the eye 15 x 20. Put it on top of the white eye.
New Layer. Call it Eye2. Preset Shape, Teardrop. Color white. Make the eye 5 x 7 and put it
on top of the other eyes layers, like this.

Close all other Layers except these three eyes layers. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Eye.
Deformation Tool. Turn the eye inwards a bit. Duplicate, Image, Mirror. Put the eyes in place.
The bear will have a different look, depending on where you put the eyes.

Close all layers except these two eyes layers. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Eyes.
Drag this Layer under Layer Muzzle in your Layers Palette.

Stand on Layer Muzzle. New Layer. Call it Nose. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Black color.
Make the nose 28 x 23. Effects, 3D, Inner Bevel, Round. Put the nose in place.

New Layer. Call it Mouth1. Draw, Single Line 1. Make a line 0 x 24 long. Put it under the nose.

New Layer. Call it Mouth2. Preset Shapes, Ellipse, Retain Style. Black color.
Make the ellipse 59 x 45. Place the mouth like this.

Selection Tool, Rectangle. Mark what you will delete, like this.

Delete. Deselect.

Stand on Layer Head. New Layer. Call it Eyebrow. Airbrush2, color #5C4332.
Make a small eyebrow over the eye. Smudge a little.
Duplicate, Image, Mirror. Put the eyebrows in place.

Stand on Layer Head. Magic Wand. Click in your picture. Selections Invert.
New Layer. Airbrush2, color #E13405. Put some paint on the cheeks like this.

Effects, Blur, Gaussian Blur12. Deselect.

Stand on Layer Muzzle. Effects, 3D, Drop Shadow, with these settings.

Close Layers, Plate1, Plate2, Body, Sign and Text. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Head.
Drag this Layer on top in your Layers Palette.

This is what you will have now.

Now we are going to make some freehand painting.

Stand on Layer Body. New Layer. Call it Scarf. Airbrush3. Choose a color of your liking.
I chose #344534. Paint something like this and Flood Fill with the same color.

Stand on Layer Sign. New Layer. Call it Scarf2. Airbrush3, color #2F382F. Make the scarf like this.

Eraser2. Erase to make the fringes. Zoom your picture.

New Layer. Call it Scarf3. Airbrush3, color #475747. Make the scarfpart and fringes like this.

New Layer. Airbrush3. Color #344534. Make some shadowlines on the scarf.
Retouch, Smudge9. Smudge the lines a bit.

Stand on Layer Plate1. New Layer. Call it Paw. Preset Shapes, Ellipse, color #8C6E5A.
Remember to uncheck Retain Style. Make an ellipse 80 x 45.

New Layer. Preset Shapes, Ellipse, the same color. Make an ellipse 30 x 25.
Duplicate two times. Put the parts like this.

Close all Layers except these four paw-layers. Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Call it Paw.
Take the same Paint Engine and Eye Candy, Jiggle. Deformation Tool. Turn the paw a bit.
Retouch Tool, Smudge. The same settings as before, size3.

Drag this layer on top in your Layers Palette. Duplicate, Image, Mirror. Put the other paw in place.

Stand on Layer Head. Selections, select all. Selections, Float. Effects, Cutout as below.

Deselect. Effects, 3D, Drop Shadow as below.

Stand on Layer Scarf3. Effects, 3D, Drop Shadow with these settings.

Now it is time to decorate the plate. If you want to use my blueberries provided in the zip,
Copy and Paste it as a New Layer. Place it after your liking.

 Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.
