Bat

For Halloween, you may have use for a little bat.

I used some vectors in this tutorial.

Save often.

Start with a New Image 400 x 200, transparent.

New Layer. Call it Head. Black color on both Fore- and Background.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Make an ellipse 35 x 40.

New Layer. Call it Ear. Preset Shapes, Triangle. Make the Triangle 25 x 30.
Deformation Tool. Turn the ear a bit. Put it in place.

Duplicate. Image, Mirror. Put the other ear in place.

Close Layer 1. Layers, Merge Visible. Call the Layer Head.

New Layer. Call it Body. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Make an ellipse 35 x 130.

New Layer. Call it Bottom. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Make an ellipse 10 x 15.
Place it at the end of the body.

It will look like this now.

Close Layer 1. Merge Visible. Call it Body.

New Vector Layer. Call it Wing.
Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Create as vector checked. Make an ellipse 190 x 90.
Object Selector. Node Edit. Keep Ctrl down, while you add some nodes like I did.
Right click, on one node at a time, at the three bottom nodes of the wing. Node Type, Convert to Line.
That will make the angle sharp. When you want a rounded line, you have to choose Symmetric.

Right click. Quit Node Editing. Left click somewhere at your Image.
Put the wing up a bit. A little closer to the head.

Right click in your Layers Palette and Convert to Raster Layer. Call it Wing1.

Duplicate. Image, Mirror. Put the other wing in place.

Close Layer 1. Merge Visible to the rest.

New Raster Layer. Grey color #5F5757 on Foreground.
Draw, Single Line 3. Antialial checked. Make lines like I did.

Close Layer 1. Merge Visible.

New Raster Layer. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Be sure to unmark Create as vectors.
Yellow color on both Fore- and Background. Make a circle 3 x 3.
Put the eye in place. Duplicate and put the other eye in place.

New Raster Layer. Preset Shapes, Ellipse. Red color on both Fore- and Background.
Make an ellipse 5 x 6. Put the mouth in place.

Delete Layer1. Merge visible to the rest.

Now you can be out flying in the night.
